Winter has arrived here on the Oregon Coast in a rather tumultuous fashion. Wait, what happened to fall, you ask? Well, it was very short-lived.

Summer stretched into early October, and fall finally arrived a couple of weeks ago. But just as the leaves were peaking in the Willamette Valley with fall color, we’ve been blasted with a series of winter-like storms (which here means cold, driving rain).

So, yeah, winter.

Now, the leaves are gone, the rain gear is out, the days are darkening, and we’re hunkering down for a long winter’s nap.

And because I have a lot to be thankful for this year (my most recent MRI prompted my neurosurgeon to say that my brain is “healing beautifully,” for example), I’m going all in on holiday prep.

In fact, I’ve already started my Christmas shopping, and my husband and I have already been scouting out the holiday decorations we might want to add to our outdoor display this year.

And if you, too, are already thinking about the holidays, here’s your final reminder about the WMG Holiday Spectacular 2019 Kickstarter, which ends at 4:14 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 23.

We’ve reached our first stretch goal and are approaching our second. That means that everyone who pledges $5 or more also gets Santa and Other Christmas Criminals by Kristine Kathryn Rusch for sure and will get Fiction River: Christmas Ghosts, edited by Kristine Grayson, if we reach our second goal.

It’s practically raining holiday reading fun. Be sure to get in on the deluge while you can.
